WINNERS ANNOUNCED FOR AMATEUR PHOTOGRAPHY CONTEST

This years Jackson County is Picture Perfect contest, sponsored by the Jackson County Times-Journal, drew a fascinating crop of entries. It also drew some newcomers to the Markay. We hope theyll return again and again.

The Times-Journal recently announced that Valerie Anderson took First Place in the Adult Division for her startling color photograph of wild mushrooms entitled The Three Amigos. Valerie earned a $75 cash award.

Taking top honors in the Youth Division was Kaitlin Simpkins with Heart of Our Country. The inventive lass arranged a pair of hands, clasped in heart shape, in front of the American Flag to produce a patriotic image. Kaitlin won $75 for her creativity.

Second Place went to Sharon Leali in the Adult Division for Wildflower Appreciation showing one of her beloved dogs nuzzling a clump of violets. Tristyn Ingram won in the Youth Division with a shot of railroad track going round a bend entitled Track to Nowhere. Each won $50.

Third Place in the Adult Division was garnered by Trevor Strawser for his sepia tone close-up of a delicious Bubble from Michaels which he calls Joy Overflowing. In the Youth Division, the honor went to Emma Brackman for her icy shot of a Snow Day Blue Jay. Each took home $25 for their efforts.

Coming out on top as Best Representation of Jackson County in the Adult Division was Denise L. Armstrong for her lovely autumn landscape entitled One Fine Day. In the Youth Division Cassie Glassburn got the nod for her striking fall leaf called Floating Through the Storm. The cash prize for both was $50.

Its always fascinating to see who wins the Peoples Choice Award. In the Adult Division it was Jill Neff for her picture of a little frog peeping out the spout of her watering can, entitled Whos There Emma Brackman captured folks attention with her close-up of a bee feasting on a crocus, entitled Pollen Pal.
